The Premier Soccer League [PSL] will elect a new executive committee at their general meeting scheduled for mid-November.
It’s been four years since chairman Irvin Khoza, Kaizer Motaung, Mato Madlala, John Comitis, Stanley Matthews, David Thidiela, Rejoice Simelane and Robert Benadie were voted into the roles.
Khoza will give the annual address, with the some of the key points on the agenda proposed as follows:
Declaration of interest
– Approval of minutes from the previous Annual General Meeting [AGM]
– The annual report from the CEO
– The audited financial statements of the league
– Any proposed amendments to the NSL handbook Apart from the election of the executive committee, member clubs will also be asked to deliberate recommendations to SAFA.
One of the burning issues could be the issue around the qualifications for coaches in the professional ranks. SAFA technical director Walter Steenbok last year raised eyebrows when he suggested no coach in the DStv Premiership [now sponsored by Betway] should sit on the bench without a CAF A license.
Steenbok went further by insisting the assistant coach should then also hold a CAF B qualification and that this recommendation should be part of the new NSL rules. But with the 2024/25 season now in full swing, the PSL is yet to align and it appears as though the proposal has been delayed.
With PSL member clubs expected to all gather at the Sandton Convention Center on 13 November, this point could be part of the agenda.The current executive committee was elected in November 2020.
