A concerned commuter has raised serious concerns about taxi safety in the area after a recent trip from Eyethu Orange Farm Mall to Majazane left passengers fearing for their lives.
The commuter, who asked to remain anonymous, described the taxi service as “unacceptable and unsafe.”
According to the commuter, the taxi was in a dangerous condition: “Yesterday we were traveling from Eyethu Mall to Majasane. The vehicle was in a very poor state. Most concerning was the front passenger door, which was broken and could not close, the queue marshal was there, but did nothing, . Despite this serious safety issue, the driver continued operating the taxi and even forced a passenger to ride like that.”
The commuter told OFN: “The driver forced us to use this kind of transport; they don’t care about our lives. Just imagine putting a woman on a car door like on a moving vehicle.”
The commuter added that the vehicle did not have a licence disc. “I believe the owner of this car knows about this vehicle. And the taxi association knows about this vehicle. It doesn’t have a disc,” the commuter said.
The commuter also criticized the driver’s attitude, describing it as rude and unprofessional. “When concerns were raised about the broken door, the driver responded disrespectfully instead of addressing the issue responsibly. As a paying customer, I expect safe, roadworthy transport and respectful service. Operating a damaged vehicle and dismissing passenger concerns is unacceptable and potentially dangerous.”
OFN tried to contacted OFUTA regarding this issue, at the time of publishing, no feedback had been received, we’ll update the story as new info emerges.
