Today, 30 March Drieziek community members, joined by City of Johannesburg councillor Lubabalo Magwentshu, came together on 30 March to assist Benjamin Sefuli (68) with the installation of a roof on his unfinished RDP house in Drieziek.
Sefuli has been living in difficult conditions since 2023 after his shack was demolished for an RDP housing project that was never completed. For nearly three years, he has been without proper shelter, enduring harsh weather conditions without basic necessities.
Following growing awareness of his situation, local residents and volunteers stepped in to offer support, donating materials and labour to help restore dignity to his living conditions.
Community leader Khonzaphi Mbele expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the initiative.
“We would like to thank each and every person who came forward to assist. This shows the true spirit of our community — when we stand together, we can make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Mbele.
