With an abundance of untapped talent in Orange Farm and surrounding communities, Laykhaya Academy is bridging the gap between raw potential and professional skill.

Operating from the Orange Farm Skills Centre, this dynamic initiative is transforming lives through free, industry-relevant training. Laykhaya Academy is a community-based organisation committed to empowering local youth and adults by offering practical, skills-based education.

The academy provides structured courses that are completely free of charge, with the aim of equipping participants with the tools needed to thrive in today’s competitive creative and digital industries.

The current programme offering includes training in: Sound operation, music production, and media production. These courses cover key areas such as live and studio sound, event mixing, equipment setup and media creation.

All classes are facilitated by experienced professionals in the industry, ensuring that participants receive high-quality, real-world training.

According to Miya from Laykhaya Academy, the goal is to provide meaningful alternatives for young people and adults who are eager to grow but lack access to formal opportunities. “We want to create opportunities where there are none. Whether you’re a young person with big dreams or an adult looking to upskill, our doors are open. We believe education should be a right, not a privilege – and that’s why we offer these courses for free,” said Miya.

Laykhaya Academy’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. The academy stands as a beacon of hope in a community often overlooked, providing not just education, but inspiration, mentorship and a path toward sustainable careers in the creative sector.

All courses are: 100% free, taught by industry professionals, open to residents of Orange Farm and surrounding communities. The Academy operates from the Orange Farm Skills Centre, located next to the police station.

For more information, interested individuals can contact Miya on 075 108 3370 or Tebogo 081 759 1528.
