Meditation, yoga and conversations about personal growth took centre stage in Drieziek 5 on Sunday, 6 September, when residents attended an introductory Gnosis session aimed at promoting self-awareness and inner wellbeing.
The session was hosted by We Strive to Live in partnership with Soul Whole Yoga | Meditation | Wellness and Gnosis South Africa, bringing community members together for an afternoon of reflection, guided meditation and discussion.
Thandeka Mdunyelwa of We Strive to Live said the initiative was about creating an accessible space where community members could focus on themselves and their wellbeing.
“We wanted to create a safe and welcoming space where people can slow down, look within and learn more about themselves. Many people in our communities are dealing with everyday pressures, and sometimes we need spaces where we can reconnect with ourselves and find healthier ways of dealing with life’s challenges,” Mdunyelwa said.
Participants sat in a circle for breathing exercises, meditation and conversations about the mind, human behaviour and self-discovery.
Mdunyelwa said the response from residents showed there was an interest in programmes that combine personal development, meditation and community connection.
“The response was encouraging. People were open to learning and sharing, and it showed us that there is a need for these kinds of spaces in Orange Farm. This was only an introduction, and we hope more residents will join us as the programme continues,” she said.
Organisers described Gnosis as a path of self-knowledge and consciousness rather than a religion, with the introductory discussion touching on the Level of the Being, human centres, the mind and inner development.
Following the introductory session, a free 10-session Introduction to Gnosis Course is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 4 October, from 1pm to 3pm in Orange Farm.
The course will explore topics including Who Are We?, Our Human Centres, Solving Problems, The Mind, Awakening Consciousness, Understanding Cosmic Laws, Mapping Our Inner Dimensions, Transformation of Impressions and The Other Dimensions.
Each session will include yoga, tea, coffee and open discussion. No previous experience in yoga or meditation is required.
