A multi-agency school search and seizure operation was conducted at Thetha Secondary School in Orange Farm today as part of ongoing efforts to create safer learning environments across Gauteng.
The operation, led by the South African Police Service (SAPS), brought together several law enforcement and government stakeholders, including Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile, the Gauteng Provincial Traffic Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Brinant Group and other law enforcement partners.
The initiative forms part of the province’s broader school safety programme, which aims to prevent crime, remove dangerous and illegal items from school premises, and promote a safe environment where learners and educators can focus on teaching and learning.
During the operation, officials searched school premises and engaged with learners and staff on the importance of maintaining discipline, respecting the law and working together to combat crime in schools.
MEC Lebogang Maile said ensuring the safety of learners remains a shared responsibility.
“Safe schools are the foundation of quality education. It takes government, law enforcement, parents, educators and communities working together to protect our children and create environments where they can learn without fear. We remain committed to strengthening school safety across Gauteng,” said Maile.
The school search and seizure programme continues to be rolled out at schools across the province as part of Gauteng’s ongoing commitment to improving school safety and fostering positive learning environments.
