Drieziek 4 Block 7 community leaders from the Rise Up group donated 100 shoes to Itemoheng Primary and Thetha Secondary schools on 12 February, with sponsorship from MK’s Member of Parliament, eColleen Makhubela.
Khonzaphi Mbele, Rise Up chairperson, he initiative was inspired by the conditions they observed during one of their school cleaning campaigns. “We saw the state that our children go to school in when we were busy cleaning, and we felt the need to step in and close the gap. As a parent myself, it is painful to see a child suffer when you can help them or do something that will assist,” he said.
He added that the donation was also intended to provide hope for children affected by recent gang violence in the area. “Following all the gang violence that has been happening in Thetha, we just wanted to give our children hope and make them see that they are loved and seen,” Khonzaphi said.
