Orange Farm police have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a man in Lakeside Ext 1.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Monday, 20 January, at around 18:00. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the lifeless body of a man lying in the street, wearing only boxer shorts, with visible whip marks all over his body.
“It is alleged that the victim was assaulted by a group of individuals who accused him of stealing their belongings. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene,” said Sergeant Motsapi, Orange Farm SAPS communications officer.
A swift and thorough investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, who were positively linked to the murder. Reports indicate that the suspects were familiar with the deceased. Orange Farm SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier MJ Manamela, commended the rapid response by officers that resulted in the arrests. He also acknowledged the vital role played by the community in assisting the police with the investigation, highlighting that “partnership policing is crucial in the fight against crime”.
The suspects are expected to appear soon at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of murder.
