An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy at Eyethu Mall on Saturday, 21 December.
Orange Farm SAPS communication officer, Sergeant Motsapi, said: “The incident occurred around 11:45 am. Officers responded to a report of a stabbing and found the victim, who had sustained a single stab wound to the left chest. He was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention but tragically succumbed to his injuries.”
A witness accompanying the deceased reported that they were walking past stores in the mall when the suspect suddenly approached and stabbed the victim without saying a word before fleeing the scene.
Thanks to swift police action and immediate investigations, the suspect was traced and apprehended shortly after the incident. Acting Station Commander, Colonel TG Mofokeng, commended the officers for their quick response, emphasising the importance of partnership policing to enhance community safety. He also urged mall management to strengthen security measures to protect shoppers.
The suspect is set to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate Court on a charge of murder.
