A tragic incident of suspected taxi violence occurred on 5 August, at approximately 17:50, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old woman.

The shooting is said to have began on the R557 and concluded at a residence in Weilers Farm.

According to reports, the driver of a squad car from the local Taxi Association, who was returning from a meeting in Orange Farm, noticed the woman (now deceased) by the roadside near the Golden Highway. He recognized her and offered her a lift.

While driving, an unknown vehicle approached from behind and began firing at the squad car. The driver attempted to evade the attack but was unsuccessful. The victim was fatally shot from behind. The driver fled to Weilers Farm, where he discovered the victim had been shot.

Upon inspection, approximately 11 bullet holes were found in the vehicle, indicating shots were fired from the rear, passing through the vehicle to the front. The suspects who were driving an unknown vehicle remain unidentified.

The incident appears to be related to ongoing taxi violence. Approximately 12 rifle cartridge cases, believed to be from an AK-47, were found on the R557, Grasmere Eikenhof road.

Authorities, including VISPOL, LCRC, and EMS, attended the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with no arrests made at this time.
