On 20 February, the school hosted a powerful anti-bullying event under the theme “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully,” aimed at fostering a safe and inclusive environment for students and staff.
Various stakeholders took the stage, including SAPS, Social Development, Crime Prevention and others. Social worker Sungulane Ndlovu, spoke about child abuse, children’s rights and responsibilities, and the vital role of Childline, where she is based at the Arekopaneng offices. While SAPS Sergeant Modise warned learners about bullying and its consequences, Thokozane Mamina, deputy chairperson of Orange Farm’s Department of Crime Prevention, broke down the meaning of bullying with real-life examples. Meanwhile, social workers Thandisizwe and Karabo from the Department of Social Development reminded students that bullying is a criminal offence. They urged learners to support one another and be voices for the voiceless.
The event also showcased creative expressions from Grade 7 students, who performed powerful anti-bullying poems and danced in celebration of a bullying-free environment. The school principal, Nelson Mukhufi, expressed gratitude to all attendees and reinforced the importance of respect and responsibility in creating a positive school culture.
This initiative underscored the collective effort needed from schools, parents and the community to eradicate bullying and protect learners.
