Orange Farm was set alight with excitement as Mr Sirga the MC’s Top 8 Soccer Tournament brought the community together for a thrilling, youth-centred event at City Park Soccer Field, Ext 1, on 31 August.
The tournament, spanning two intense days, concluded on 1 September, with the Orange Farm Tycoons emerging as the champions.
The tournament, organised by Tshepiso Clement Ditshoane, popularly known as Mr Sirga the MC, aimed to foster unity within the community while addressing critical issues such as substance abuse and unemployment.
In the first round of matches, the results were as follows:
-Morning Stars 0 – Orange Farm Tycoons 1
– Messi Academy 7 – Tjovitjo Red Stars 0
– Kweneng FC 0 – Viyo Viyo FC 1
– Al Ahly SC progressed after Simunye FC was disqualified for breaching tournament rules.
The final showdown saw Viyo Viyo FC and Orange Farm Tycoons locked in a goalless draw, with the Tycoons ultimately securing victory through a 7-6 penalty shootout. The champions took home R8,000, while runners-up Viyo Viyo FC, from Ext 8, were awarded R3,000.
Mr Sirga expressed his satisfaction with how the tournament unfolded and extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success.
