On 25 January, the Orange Farm LGBTIQ+ organisation visited Abantu Literacy League to inspire children, show them love and promote literacy.
Partnering with Safe Place International, Pachedu, The Fruit Basket and Limpho Seeiso, the organisation embraced the theme “Catch Them Young and Read to Grow”, encouraging young minds to see the power of reading.
“Our goal is to create a community that accepts and respects LGBTIQ+ rights. We believe that visibility, education and unity are key to breaking barriers and ending discrimination. Everyone deserves to live with dignity, love and acceptance- without fear. Change starts with us, and we are committed to making Orange Farm a safer, more inclusive place for all,”said organisation founder, Nkalimeng Sephapo.
Established on 30 March 2023, the group operates from Orange Farm despite not having a formal office space. To further their mission, they plan to hold an awareness walk, marching through the streets with placards carrying strong messages of equality and human rights. Through advocacy and community engagement, they continue working towards a more inclusive Orange Farm.
