On 11 June, a joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) resulted in the arrest of 26 suspects during Operation Prosper conducted in the Orange Farm policing precinct on Thursday.
The operation targeted various criminal activities in the area as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and maintain stability in the community.
According to police, 19 undocumented immigrants were arrested, while three suspects were apprehended for possession of illicit drugs. Another three suspects were arrested for illegal mining-related activities, and one person was taken into custody for allegedly harbouring an undocumented immigrant.
In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers issued four traffic fines with a combined value of R4 000 during the operation.
Authorities said Operation Prosper forms part of coordinated crime-combatting initiatives aimed at addressing criminality, strengthening law enforcement visibility, and reassuring residents of the commitment by SAPS and SANDF to creating safer communities.
Police have indicated that similar operations will continue across the area as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and enforce the law.
