One inspiring example is Tumi Serathi from Lakeside, a skilled nail technician operating her business from the bustling Eyethu Mall Taxi Rank. Serathi’s journey began in Cape Town, where she first ventured into nail art. Now based in Orange Farm, she continues to build her brand, powered by self-taught skills and a deep passion for beauty.
Speaking with Orange Farm News, she shared: “I didn’t study to become a nail technician; everything I know is self-taught. I just love nails and making my clients feel beautiful, happy and satisfied with my work.”
Her dedication is paying off, as she consistently sees a healthy flow of customers. Serathi said: “On a good day, I can serve six or seven clients. I keep my prices affordable because I understand how tough the economy is. Women shouldn’t have to sacrifice looking good just because times are hard.”
Offering a variety of nail styles, she allows each client to choose the look they love, tailoring her services to individual tastes. Beyond her skill and affordability, Serathi attributes her success to the strong relationships she has built with her clients.
“Being a nail technician is an art, a blend of creativity and skill. Once you master that, you’re a professional,” she explains.
“But beyond the technique, building trust with my clients is the foundation of my business,” she added.
