A murder suspect has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old in Lakeside Ext 5.

According to Orange Farm SAPS, police were called to the scene at about midday on Tuesday, May 19, where they found the lifeless body of the teenager lying in the street with a stab wound to the neck.

Police said the deceased and the suspect allegedly had a previous conflict which led to another confrontation on the day of the incident. Following a verbal altercation, the suspect allegedly went home, returned armed with a knife (oukapie) and attacked the victim during a fight.

The teenager succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Community members reportedly assisted police by apprehending the suspect shortly after the incident and handing him over to authorities.

During investigations, police also recovered the alleged murder weapon at the suspect’s hiding place.

“The suspect is detained at Orange Farms Police Station and will soon appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder,” said Orange Farm SAPS Corporate Communication Officer, Shaan Motsapi.
