The Effort Bhebhe Soccer Tournament ended on a high note with Mshengu XI crowned champions in the Under-15 category and Future Stars Ladies taking the top spot in the women’s division on 20 April.
The tournament featured a Top 16 knockout for U-15 boys and a Top 4 showdown for ladies. In a tightly contested boys’ final, Mshengu XI edged out Chocky Junior Stars 1-0 to lift the title.
Meanwhile, Future Stars Ladies triumphed 5-4 on penalties against Deep South Ladies after a goalless draw.
U-15 Boys
1st Place – Mshengu XI: Brand new soccer kit, gold medals, R1 000 cash prize and a floating trophy
2nd Place – Chocky Junior Stars: Silver medals
Ladies Division
1st Place – Future Stars Ladies: Gold medals, trophy, and soccer bibs
2nd Place – Deep South Ladies: Silver medals and training bibs
Tournament organisers Tshepiso “Nkunzi” Ncala and Bongani Maphoto expressed their gratitude to all participating teams. “We would like to thank all the teams that attended. We truly appreciate them. Next year, we are coming back bigger and better,” said Ncala.“
“Our mission is to uplift our Kasi and put it on the map. We’ve already secured a game between our winners and a team from GDL. Mshengu XI will also be playing against Wits – we’re just waiting for the date to be confirmed,” the organisers added.
The U-17 category is still underway due to a high number of team entries. The remaining matches will be scheduled in May.
