Magic Gym hosted a vibrant Breast Cancer Awareness event on 8 November at its premises in Ext 1, bringing together women dressed in pink and black for a day of health, empowerment and sisterhood.
Attendees enjoyed a range of wellness activities, including fitness exercises and bonding sessions that helped create new friendships. Women were urged to prioritise early testing and conduct regular self-examinations, with organisers stressing that early detection remains the strongest defence against breast cancer.
The event also addressed gender-based violence (GBV), a crisis that continues to claim the lives of women across South Africa. Magic Gym founder, Mdu Mthembu, told Orange Farm News that his gym has long been a platform for promoting both healthy living and social awareness.
Mthembu said: “For years, I’ve used this gym to spread the message of living a healthy lifestyle, but also to speak out against social ills like GBV. Women are being killed senselessly, and that needs to stop. We all have a responsibility to protect and uplift our communities.”
Mthembu added that he intends to host more health awareness campaigns in Orange Farm and called on sponsors and partners to support his mission of building healthier and safer communities.
Magic Gym operates at Bakgatleng Pub and Grill in Ext 1, where fitness lovers meet to exercise, connect and grow stronger together.
