Local Community Football league strives for positive impact in Orange Farm

Founded in 2021, Positive Living People Dinokeng Lekoa (PLPDL) Community Football league and Competition NPC is dedicated to empowering local youth, nurturing talent and fostering positive community impact.

Their season runs from February to October, with a break in November for exams. The league culminates in a year-end function in December, celebrating winners and providing a festive break. This league consists of 10 teams, 4 divisions, U11, 13, 15 and 17. Teams pay registration fee of R300 to become members. The league is based in Ext 8a.

The league’s commitment to the community goes beyond the field, with initiatives like providing meals on Saturdays and hosting holiday competitions to engage participants and foster a sense of belonging.

Molefi Clement Mpe, league chairman, told Orange Farm News: “Despite challenges with local football associations, our determination and community support have propelled the league forward. Regular events and sponsorships, like the upcoming finals sponsored by the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation, showcase the league’s impact and potential.”

Despite skepticism, Mpe’s experience in sports and community leadership propelled the league forward. After merging various organizations, PLPDL Community Football League and Competition NPC was born, starting with ten teams across different age groups. The league quickly gained traction, promoting sportsmanship and providing a positive outlet for local youth.

Mpe’s vision extends beyond sports, aiming to steer children away from negative influences in the community. “The league’s success has even led to players joining prestigious teams like Kaizer Chiefs FC and Sundowns, thanks to partnerships with key figures in the industry,” Mpe added.

As they gear up for the upcoming finals on 21 March, Mpe invites the Orange Farm community to witness the positive impact of their league and celebrate the achievements of local youth.
