Kwakhanya: Orange Farm residents celebrate as Premier Lesufi restores power
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi shares a joyful moment with a family in Drieziek 4

In a crucial step toward improving electricity access, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi oversaw the switch-on of seven transformers in Orange Farm’s Drieziek 3, 4, and Stretford 6 on 30 September.

The event, part of Operation Khanyisa Gauteng, marks a significant milestone in restoring reliable power to the area. For many residents, this moment brought immense relief after enduring nearly four years without electricity.

“These were the hardest years of our lives,” one resident said.

“In winter, it was even worse. We had to rely on neighbours to charge our phones and many spent extra money on paraffin or gas just to cook or boil water. When I saw the lights come on, it felt like a dream come true,” another resident shared.

Cathy Khoza from Drieziek 3 echoed the sentiment, expressing her gratitude to Premier Lesufi and Eskom: “Life without electricity was a struggle. I didn’t think this day would come, but now we can move forward I’m very happy.”

Operation Khanyisa aims to enhance electricity access and infrastructure across Gauteng, focusing on underserved areas to reduce outages and secure a reliable power supply.

Partnering with Eskom and City Power, the Gauteng Provincial Government continues to work toward sustainable electricity distribution as part of its broader GGT 2030 plan, which seeks to drive economic development and improve living standards for residents.

The switch-on event represents more than just restoring power; it’s a promise to the people of Orange Farm for a brighter future.
