A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend to death during a dispute over R10 at the Matiki dumping site near the Mokokotlong informal settlement on Thursday, 27 November.
Police were called to the scene at around 16:00. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a man lying face up with a stab wound to the chest. Preliminary reports suggest that the victim was attacked during an argument over money he allegedly owed the suspect. The attacker fled the scene immediately after the stabbing.
A murder case was opened, and swift work by the Orange Farms SAPS Detective Service led to the rapid arrest of the suspect.
Orange Farms SAPS communication officer, Sgt Shaan Motsapi, confirmed the arrest, saying: “Our detectives acted quickly and professionally. Their rapid response ensured that the suspect was traced and apprehended before he could evade justice.”
The suspect has since appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.
Sgt Motsapi further revealed that the ongoing detective operations have yielded broader results.
“Through extended investigations linked to this and other cases, our team successfully arrested 14 additional suspects involved in assault GBH, common assault and murder,” Motsapi said.
