SAPS has arrested five suspects in connection with the hijacking, kidnapping, and murder of two young women whose bodies were discovered in Poortjie, along Randfontein Road on 8 January.
The victims, 25-year-old Nontokozo Mazibuko and 25-year-old Andiswa Sontangane, were reported missing from Evaton on 31 December 2025 after being last seen at the Pooe Soccer Grounds. Following a ransom demand to one of the victims’ mother, the case was upgraded to include hijacking and kidnapping.
Police, acting on intelligence, traced and arrested four suspects in Evaton and a fifth in Germiston on 13 January . An unlicensed firearm was recovered. Investigators also discovered the victims’ vehicle abandoned at a car wash in Brits. The vehicle had false number plates but retained the correct license disc.
Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, welcomed the arrests, saying the rapid action was a result of the coordinated efforts of investigative teams and community cooperation.
All five suspects are expected to appear before Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on 15 January 2026.
