Nineteen-year-old Njabulo Malindi from Orange Farm Ext 2, is a talented visual artist who does commissioned artworks for a living, he seeks help to nurture his talent and grow in the industry.

By Queen Machimana- Intern

Malindi says his interest in drawing was sparked when he was in Grade 2, however, in 2014, he took the decision to pursue art and showcase his talent by painting and drawing portraits of people.

Njabulo matriculated in 2021 at Vulanindlela Secondary School and couldn’t pursue a Bachelor of Arts at the university because but he didn’t meet the requirements.

He reuses materials from thrown cupboards – room dividers or wardrobes – to make his portrait.

Njabulo Malindi poses with a finished portrait of American actor Martin Lawrence

“I use paint, pencils, pens, crayons and charcoal to make the portraits.Everyday I always try to find new ways of nurturing my skills. Acquiring materials is a challenge, this is made worse by customers who promise to buy but don’t pay at the end. This is costly as I finish the portraits and get nothing in return,” Njabulo toldOrange Farm News.

He appeals to readers to help him grow his talent so that he can be able to put food on the table.

Anyone who would like to help Njabulo can contact him on 078 010 1921 or find him on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook under Njabulo’s Art SA.
