The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is nearing completion of the Drieziek Recreation Park in Drieziek Extension 3, a flagship public-space project under the City of Johannesburg’s Orange Farm Turnkey Programme.
Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026, the development will provide residents with a safe, inclusive recreational facility that promotes active living, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability.
Construction is in its final stages, with demolition and site works completed, stormwater infrastructure nearly finished, and sports courts, an amphitheatre, walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor facilities well advanced. Landscaping, greening, and agricultural components are also underway.
The park will feature multipurpose futsal and tennis courts, a children’s play area, an outdoor gym, a community amphitheatre, landscaped green spaces, pedestrian walkways, solar lighting, and an agricultural centre supporting urban food production and skills development.
Drieziek is one of three priority development nodes in Greater Orange Farm identified for targeted infrastructure investment. The City aims to use projects such as this to improve public environments, stimulate local economic activity, and enhance quality of life.
The JDA is committed to supporting small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and fostering entrepreneurship by increasing opportunities for local emerging contractors, as well as creating jobs and Expanded Public Works Programme opportunities, with a focus on empowering women and youth in the construction sector.
Thirty percent of the contract value was allocated to SMMEs, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive growth and economic empowerment. Once completed, the Drieziek Recreation Park is expected to serve as a central hub for sport, culture, and community life in Orange Farm.
