Timeline Radio hosted its annual Hip Hop Awards on 7 December at Bakgatleng Pub and Grill in Ext 1. turning the venue into a celebration of pure kasi talent and rising hip-hop power.
Established in 2023, the awards were created with a bold mission: to close the gap between upcoming and mainstream artists in South Africa. Today, they stand as one of the most credible platforms for empowering new talent, recognising artistic excellence, and elevating the next wave of artists pushing to break into the industry.
Timeline Radio’s Chicco Chau, said: “Our mission has always been simple, we are here to create superstars. We want to discover new voices, nurture raw talent and ensure the artists who deserve recognition finally get the platform they need.”
Carrying the slogan “Creating Superstars,” the initiative continues to shine a light on emerging talent while also paying tribute to the pioneers who laid the foundation of the country’s hip hop culture.
This year’s event upheld that balance, celebrating both new-wave artists and respected veterans. Among the standout winners were Stan SonofMan, who walked away with the award for Best Music Video, and DJ Malcom, honoured as Best DJ. Shady Jay dominated the stage by securing both Best Collaboration and Best Male Artist, while Golden Boy RSA was recognised in the Best Hip Hop category.
The Lyricist of the Year title went to Anti Social-G3ne, and Yellow Keith earned the accolade for Best Hip Hop Producer. Skylar Star was named Best Female Artist, with Samusa taking home the award for Best Mixtape.
The ceremony also included two prestigious honorary awards, presented to industry stalwarts Rashid Kay and Speeka RSA, acknowledging their long-standing contributions to the South African hip hop landscape.
With its continued dedication to elevating artistry and connecting emerging talent to the broader industry, the Timeline Radio Hip Hop Awards remain a vital force in shaping the next generation of hip hop excellence.
