On 9 March, Ext 8’s very own Lebohang ‘Chester’ Lohasa hosted a unique Charity Freshers event at Mphethi Mahlatsi Secondary School – completely transforming the idea of a traditional fresher’s ball.
Instead of alcohol and wild partying, Chester’s event focused on giving, community and joy. Out of his own pocket, he donated sanitary pads, toiletries and school shoes – items learners truly need. His message was clear: Freshers events can be both meaningful and fun.
“It is important to show the learners that they are loved and supported,” Chester told Orange Farm News.
Knowing how much learners love celebrities, Chester invited some to the event – making the day even more exciting with music, laughter and encouragement. The Charity Freshers left a lasting impression. “I’m truly pleased with the turnout and success of the event. This is just the beginning – we may start small, but the vision is to grow. I’m now planning to take this initiative to other schools as part of a broader tour,” added Chester.
