The Born Again Super 16 Tournament kicked off on 14 February at the Stende Grounds in Ext 6a and will run until 22 February, keeping fans on edge with thrilling matches and dramatic penalty shootouts. With the finals scheduled for this weekend, the question on everyone’s mind is: who will lift the trophy?
Saturday’s action saw 680 FC and Isicathulo play to a 0-0 draw before Isicathulo edged through 5-4 on penalties. BP Legacy and Finetown Monaco also drew 1-1, with Finetown Monaco winning 5-3 in the shootout. Born Again FC put on a show with a 3-0 win over Hlanganani, staking their claim as strong contenders.
Sunday featured Foster FC narrowly defeating Vlakfontein ManCity 1-0, while Covid 19 overcame Try Again 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. McDonald’s FC triumphed 5-3 on penalties against Swidi Wodwa, and 680 FC bounced back with a 2-1 win over Hlanganani.
Tournament organiser and Born Again FC coach, Lebohang Morake, expressed his excitement, saying, “The tournament has been a great success so far, and now all eyes are on this weekend’s finals. We hope to attract sponsors to increase the prize money and make the competition even bigger.”
