Eunice Gambu, the founder of Bo Mme Ratanang Feeding Scheme in Drieziek 9, has taken a proactive stance against hunger in her community.

Alongside dedicated members, she tends a garden in her backyard to provide meals for around 500 children, orphans, the elderly and youth battling substance abuse. Operating four days a week – on Mondays after school, Wednesdays, and Thursdays – the organization seeks donations to sustain this crucial work.

Gambu, a single mother of four, also cares for three orphans aged between 20 and 24. Complementing her efforts, the Bo Mme Hare Rataneng Agricultural Project aims to address hunger issues and educate the community about the importance of agriculture.

Recently, the Department of Agriculture commemorated World Food Day at Bomme Ratanang Feeding Scheme. The event saw the participation of Ward 4 Councillor Simon Molefe, the Agricultural group from the Department of Agriculture, learners, community members, local farmers and others.

Gambu, in conversation with Orange Farm News, appealed for support, seeking sponsors for food, vegetables, toiletries, clothing, school uniforms, stationery for the upcoming year and sanitary products for girls.

Acknowledging the disadvantaged backgrounds of the supported children, she stressed the critical need for donations.

The Department of Agriculture’s contributions of seedlings and agricultural resources have been instrumental in ensuring sustainable garden practices.

Notably, the Department of Social Development donated ten packets of vegetables for the event. Representatives from the Department of Agriculture also assisted in food preparation for the children, contributing to the event’s success. Gambu expressed gratitude to all those who played a part in the success of the day.
