On 15 April, the GBV Stakeholder Group, Stretford Clinic and partnering organisations hosted a powerful Autism Awareness event at Stretford Clinic.
The event, listed on the Department of Health’s official calendar, aimed to support individuals living with Autism, raise awareness of the condition and educate the community.
Community advocate Thabo Motaung, expressed gratitude for the successful turnout. He told Orange Farm News: “The event went well – we were happy with the turnout. Community members came in their numbers to celebrate Autism Month, learn and receive valuable information. Thank you to all stakeholders who made this day possible and to the community for joining us.”
April marks Autism Awareness Month in South Africa, a time dedicated to increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction and sensory experiences. While it has no cure, early diagnosis, therapy and ongoing support can significantly improve quality of life for those affected.
