The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Orange Farm has launched a double-murder investigation after the bodies of two young women were discovered on Thursday afternoon, 8 January 2026.
Police responded at approximately 17:30 to reports from an open veld area in Poortjie, south of Johannesburg. Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless bodies of two adult females. The victims were later positively identified by their families as 25-year-old Nontokozo Mazibuko and 25-year-old Andiswa Sontangane.
The two women had been reported missing in Evaton after they were last seen at the Pooe Soccer Grounds on 31 December 2025. Missing persons cases were opened at Evaton SAPS, sparking a desperate search by loved ones.
In a tragic turn, it was the families themselves who made the grim discovery along Randfontein Road, just after passing Poortjie. Relatives remained at the scene, visibly distraught as they came to terms with the devastating loss.
SAPS confirmed that the motive for the killings is unknown at this stage. A case docket of double murder has been opened and investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation or lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously via the MySAPS App, the Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111, or by contacting Orange Farm SAPS at (011) 213 8023 / 8025 / 8026.
