Three suspects aged between 24 and 63 were arrested on 5 April, for dealing in dagga at Stafford Village near Nerston Border Post
Police in Nerston Port of Entry were reportedly doing their normal patrol duties when they spotted a red Hyundai SUV with three occupants inside. They stopped the vehicle which had Mpumalanga registration number plates and conducted a search.
Upon searching they found three compressed rolls of dagga in the boot. It weighed 50,29 kilograms with an estimated street value of about R211 218-00. The suspects were all arrested and charged for dealing in dagga. One of them is a foreign national from the Kingdom of Eswatini and he had no proper documentation to be in South Africa hence police are working in collaboration with officials from the Department of Home and the suspect is facing an additional charge of contravention of the Immigration Act.
The three appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on 6 April facing the said charges.The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspects.
