A routine patrol by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) in Drieziek Tjovitjo, Block C, Orange Farm, led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer after officers recovered Mandrax tablets and crystal meth.
According to JMPD, officers were conducting routine patrols in the area when they noticed a group of men. The group fled as officers approached, prompting a foot chase. One suspect was cornered and searched.
During the search, officers allegedly recovered 10 Mandrax tablets and seven packets of crystal meth from the suspect.
The suspect was arrested on charges of drug possession and detained at Orange Farm SAPS, where further investigations will continue.
JMPD praised the Tactical Response Unit officers for their swift response, saying, “Kudos to the officers for keeping our streets safe.”
The metro police added that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime and improve community safety across Johannesburg.
Police have urged residents to continue reporting criminal activity as law enforcement agencies intensify operations to remove illegal drugs from communities and create safer neighbourhoods.
