A tuberculosis (TB) awareness event held on 31 March 2026 at the Dalibhunga Mokokotlong informal settlement, near Extensions 8 and 9, drew more than 500 community members and delivered a wide range of essential health services.
The outreach provided TB screening and education alongside immunisation, HIV testing services (HTS), family planning, pap smears, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), environmental health services, and support for social issues. The initiative was led by Extension 7 Clinic in partnership with Sizanani NGO, Jozi Hlomile, and Masechaba NGO, under the supervision of Matron Sister Fikile.
Community members expressed strong appreciation for the services, citing ongoing challenges in accessing healthcare facilities.“We are grateful for the services brought directly to our community. Many of us struggle to reach clinics, so these visits make a big difference. We hope they can happen more often,” said Xolisile Nxumalo.
Organisers described the event as a success, noting both the high turnout and the positive community response, and indicated the need for more frequent outreach programmes in underserved areas.
