Isikhumbuzo Fun Park came alive on 9 August as more than 500 people gathered for the Phinifa and Shades Picnic, a Women’s Day celebration hosted by Skhandafest Entertainment.

The event blended music, culture and appreciation for mothers, drawing guests from Orange Farm, Soweto, Sebokeng and Lakeside Proper.

Event coordinator Tshepiso Ditshoane, known as Mr Sirga the MC, said the response showed that there was a strong appetite for events that bring women together in a relaxed and celebratory space.

“We hosted this event last year and from there we saw the necessity of celebrating Women’s Day by gathering our mothers in one place and serving them good entertainment throughout the day,” said Ditshoane.

The entertainment programme featured Ziyamlandela, Antshedy and Gorila Style, alongside Dlamini Inkosi, Madlamini, Bayza Bun and DJ JOBS from Soshanguve. A surprise appearance by actor Bobo, known for Yizo Yizo, added to the day’s excitement.

Ditshoane said ticket demand was strong, with the event selling out twice during sales.

The gathering also forms part of the build-up to Skhandafest Family Fun Day 6, which will be held on 28 November 2026 at Vaal Resort in Roshnee.

Following the response to this year’s celebration, organisers are planning to host similar events in different locations next year, including a Mother’s Day event on 9 May and a Heritage Day picnic on 24 September 2027.

Skhandafest Entertainment is headed by managing director Thabo Van Graan, with Ditshoane serving as event coordinator.
