Residents of Orange Farm Ext 1 joined In-touch Youth Development and Community Justice today, to clear illegally dumped waste, backing calls for cleaner surroundings with hands-on community action.
Pikitup collected and removed the waste after the clean-up, completing an effort that organisers linked to dignity, environmental responsibility and community health.
“Today, we turned words into action,” said Dr Ronald Kapaso. “This is more than cleaning, it is about dignity, education, responsibility and the right to a healthy environment.”
Beyond removing rubbish, the initiative carried a message about preventing its return. Kapaso called for continued community education on illegal dumping and the links between waste, air pollution and public health.
He thanked residents for getting involved and Pikitup for supporting their efforts, stressing the importance of keeping the momentum going.
“A cleaner community is a healthier community. Together, we can Breathe Better Together,” said Kapaso.
