Residents in Orange Farm could experience low water pressure or temporary interruptions as strain on local reservoirs affects supply in parts of the community. A local water-outage tracker, using Johannesburg Water reservoir information dated Monday, 26 October, reported that two of the three reservoirs and towers serving Orange Farm were under strain.
The tracker said supply was being redirected around the Orange Farm Reservoir while it recovered or underwent work, with pressure potentially dropping or cutting out briefly during peak-demand periods.
The update follows concerns raised by residents of Extension 1 informal settlement about the safety of their water supply after a local organisation reportedly conducted preliminary tests in response to complaints about an unusual smell. The reported test findings have not been independently verified, and there is no confirmed evidence that the reservoir pressure problems and the alleged contamination concern are connected.
