Football development in Orange Farm and Poortjie took centre stage on Thursday, 1 October, as the Orange Farm Local Football Association (OFLFA) executive committee met with ward councillors to discuss the way forward for the sport in the two communities.
The meeting, held at the Multipurpose Hall, brought football administrators and local leadership together to discuss how they can work collectively to strengthen grassroots football and create more opportunities for local players.
OFLFA secretary Patrick Mokwena said the engagement was an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the football association and local leadership.
“We believe this meeting is an important step towards building stronger partnerships for the development of football in Orange Farm and Poortjie. Our goal is to create more opportunities for young players, strengthen local clubs and ensure that football structures receive the support they need to grow. By working together with ward councillors and other stakeholders, we can begin to address challenges and build a clear way forward for the sport in our communities,” said Mokwena.
The discussions focused on the future development of football in the two communities and provided a platform for OFLFA and councillors to identify areas where greater cooperation and support are needed.
Grassroots football remains an important part of community development, particularly in creating opportunities for young people to participate in organised sport, develop their talent and become part of structured teams and competitions.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of local leadership working alongside football structures when addressing challenges facing the sport and planning sustainable development.
OFLFA hopes the meeting will pave the way for continued engagement with councillors and other stakeholders as efforts to strengthen football in Orange Farm and Poortjie move forward.
Further details on initiatives and decisions arising from the meeting are expected to be communicated as the process progresses.
