The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit successfully apprehended three suspects in Hillbrow on Tuesday, 21 January.
These arrests stem from an ongoing investigation into a vehicle hijacking and murder case in Orange Farm. Whilst conducting patrols in Hillbrow, officers identified a blue BMW 3 Series that matched the description of a vehicle involved in the crime. Upon further investigation, officers questioned the occupants of the vehicle, who were unable to provide proof of ownership.
A subsequent vehicle check confirmed the BMW’s link to an open case at Orange Farm SAPS.The investigation expanded, leading to the seizure of three additional vehicles linked to hijacking incidents, a white BMW 3 Series, a silver Toyota Corolla and a silver Mercedes Benz. Furthermore, officers recovered two 9mm pistols, fourteen cellphones and six watches.
The three suspects were detained at Orange Farm SAPS and are facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of hijacked motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property and murder.
