Orange Farm netball player Thapelo Mokoena is appealing for community support after being selected to represent Sedibeng at the 2026 Netball South Africa National Championships.
Mokoena, from Drieziek 5, will compete as part of the Under-23A men’s team at the national tournament in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, from 4 to 10 October 2026.
The selection gives him an opportunity to showcase his talent against some of the country’s top netball players and could open doors to higher-level teams.
However, Mokoena must raise R6 460 to cover the costs of accommodation, transport, meals, a tracksuit and a warm-up T-shirt.
Sedibeng Netball does not receive regional sponsorship and relies on fundraising initiatives, businesses and public donations to help players participate in major competitions.
“I am honoured to have been selected to represent the Sedibeng District. Competing at the national championships is an important opportunity for me, and any support from the community would help me take this next step in my netball journey,” Mokoena said.
The Sedibeng delegation consists of 17 players and officials, with each member responsible for raising funds towards the trip.
Sedibeng Netball has called on local businesses, organisations and residents to support Mokoena and help ensure that he can represent both the district and Orange Farm on the national stage.
Donations can be deposited into the Sedibeng Netball First National Bank current account, using T Mokoena as the payment reference.
Community members who are able to assist are encouraged to support the young player as he prepares for one of the biggest opportunities of his sporting career.
