Residents of Orange Farm Ext 2 rolled up their sleeves today, 15 May, as they unite to clean the area surrounding Vulanindlela Secondary School in an effort to create a safer and cleaner learning environment.
Armed with refuse bags, rakes and cleaning tools, community members removed litter, cleared overgrown grass and tackled illegal dumping sites near the school. The initiative aimed to improve safety for learners while restoring pride in the neighbourhood.

Residents said the clean-up was driven by growing concerns over dirt, unsafe surroundings and the negative impact neglected spaces can have on young people.
“This is about protecting our children and showing them that their environment matters,” one community member Khonzaphi Mbele told OFN.

Parents, local volunteers and residents worked side by side throughout the day, with many calling for regular community-driven programmes to maintain cleanliness and encourage accountability in the area.
The initiative highlighted the power of unity in addressing local challenges and creating positive change for future generations.
