Learners in Ward 5 received a boost of confidence ahead of the new school term after the Patriotic Alliance Youth Alliance hosted a Back-to-School Programme aimed at supporting children and families in the community.
The initiative provided free haircuts, hair washing, and hair plaiting services, helping learners return to school feeling confident and prepared while easing some of the financial pressure many families face during the back-to-school season.
More than just a grooming programme, the initiative focused on restoring dignity and encouraging learners to start the school year with confidence. Organisers said the support was about reminding children that their community values and believes in their future.
Patriotic Alliance Councillor candidate for Ward 5, Neo Marumo, said the programme was inspired by the need to support local families and create a positive start for learners.
“We wanted to give our children confidence and show them that the community cares about their future. A simple haircut or hairstyle can make a child feel proud and motivated when they walk into the classroom,” said Marumo.
The programme brought together volunteers, hairstylists, barbers, and community members who dedicated their time and skills to ensuring learners received the support they needed.
Marumo said initiatives like these demonstrate the impact that community-driven efforts can have, adding that supporting children is an investment in the future of Ward 5 and Orange Farm.
The Patriotic Alliance Youth Alliance thanked all volunteers, residents, and supporters who contributed to making the programme a success, saying continued collaboration is essential in building a stronger and more caring community.
