Ambitiouz Sporting Ladies were crowned champions of the Kasi Motion Ladies Tournament Top 8 after defeating Blue Knight Ladies 2-1 in a hard-fought final on Saturday, 12 September.
The victory capped an impressive tournament for Ambitiouz, who powered their way through the competition with commanding performances before overcoming one of the tournament’s strongest sides in the championship decider.
Ambitiouz began their campaign in emphatic fashion, beating Black Seven Ladies 4-1 to book their place in the semi-finals.
Their attacking momentum continued against Lakegirls, with Ambitiouz securing a convincing 3-1 victory to advance to the final.
Blue Knight, meanwhile, earned their place in the decider after beating Drizik 2-0 before edging Nation 1-0 in the semi-finals.
That set up a highly anticipated showdown between Ambitiouz and Blue Knight, with the championship ultimately decided by a single goal as Ambitiouz claimed a 2-1 victory.
Ambitiouz coach Themba Sibiya praised his players for the determination they displayed throughout the competition.
“The ladies showed character from the first game until the final. They worked for each other, stayed focused and believed they could win this tournament. I am very proud of what they achieved,” Sibiya said.
The tournament also provided another competitive platform for women’s football, giving local players an opportunity to test themselves against teams from different communities.
Other opening-round results saw Nation defeat LMMTT 1-0, Blue Knight overcome Drizik 2-0 and Lakeside record a 2-1 victory over Barca.
For Ambitiouz, however, the day ended with silverware after three consecutive victories and nine goals scored across the tournament.
Sibiya said the championship should motivate his players to continue working towards bigger achievements.
“This trophy belongs to the players and everyone who continues to support the team. Women’s football has talent, and opportunities like this give these players a chance to show what they can do,” he said.
Ambitiouz Sporting will now look to build on their tournament success as the team continues its development and pursuit of further honours.
