The vibrant Vaal Monateng Café in Evaton North came alive on 5 and 6 April as it played host to Swenka Nge Phinifa – Vaal Edition, a bold two-day celebration of African fashion, cultural pride and women empowerment.
Curated by Neo Nene Maboya, the visionary founder and CEO of Women In Confidence SA Events, the showcase brought together fashion lovers, creatives, community leaders and influencers in a powerful display of style and sisterhood.
“Swenka Nge Phinifa was never just about clothes—it’s about identity, pride and celebrating who we are as Africans. I wanted women to see themselves in the fabric, to feel bold, beautiful and unshaken in their confidence,” said Maboya.
With a spotlight on the iconic Phinifa fabric, the event honoured African heritage while creating a platform for empowerment and creative expression. Attendees enjoyed live entertainment, fashion showcases, inspirational dialogues and unforgettable moments of unity.
A major highlight was the presence of international guests Mme Manyarela and Mme Malefa Makhalemele from Lesotho, whose attendance brought a unique global flair to the local celebration.
From the electric energy in the air to the overwhelming community turnout, the Vaal Edition was a phenomenal success.
“The unity, the joy, the confidence-it was all magical. Seeing people from different backgrounds come together with so much pride and purpose reminded me why we do this. This wasn’t just an event-it was a movement,” added Maboya.
Swenka Nge Phinifa – Vaal proved that when women lead with confidence and culture, the result is nothing short of extraordinary.
