In a heartwarming gesture of generosity, Merchants of Light donated over 200 pairs of school shoes, socks and hygiene care packs packs for girls to learners at Isiboniso Primary on 12 February. This thoughtful contribution was part of the Merchants of Light School Drive, aimed at supporting the educational journey of these young students.
Catherine Constantinides and Ella Bella, who have worked in the community for over 20 years, have donated thousands of school shoes to children in need- not just at Isiboniso but also in Lenasia South and across Orange Farm.
Since the start of the school year, many children have been walking a new journey of hope and dignity. With support from corporates, community members, angel donors, friends and family, Merchants of Light has provided school shoes, uniforms, stationery packs, grocery hampers and hygiene care packs.
During the week of the drive, over 500 children received a brand-new pair of shoes. Catherine shared: “We may not be able to change these children’s situations long-term, but we can give them hope and show them that they are loved and cared for. There’s nothing better than walking in a new pair of shoes-shoes that can steer you in a new, positive and hopeful direction.”
Isiboniso Primary’s management expressed their gratitude: “Many of our children had no shoes or were wearing torn sneakers. This donation made a huge difference and we are truly grateful.”
