A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested for murder and defeating the ends of justice after allegedly poisoning his 3-year-old brother and attempting to dispose of the body.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, 31 January, at around 15:00 in Drieziek 3. According to reports, the suspect fed poison to his younger brother before placing him inside a dustbin and dragging it towards the N1 national road, open veld.
“The horrifying act was uncovered by another sibling, who grew suspicious and followed the suspect. When the sibling demanded to see what was inside the dustbin, the suspect refused and fled the scene after an altercation. A murder case was opened and with swift police investigation-aided by community members-the suspect was traced and arrested the same day,” said Orange Farm SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Motsapi.
Orange Farm SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier MJ Manamela, commended both the police and the community for their quick response, ensuring the suspect was brought to justice. “The law should take decisive action against the suspect,” he stated.
The teenager will soon appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court to face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
