On 24 October, a powerful community event dedicated to raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and mental health was organised by Madibuseng Nhlapo and Generation G.
In recognition of October as Mental Health Awareness Month, the gathering brought together key stakeholders from the Orange Farm community to share insights and strategies on combating GBV and supporting mental wellness.
The event featured a vibrant flash mob at Eyethu Mall, which captivated attendees and set the tone for an impactful day. Following this, participants marched to the Orange Farm Skills Centre, where an in-depth dialogue on GBV and mental health was held.
Represented organisations included Stredford Clinic’s Mental Health division, BPS, Child Welfare, NACOSA, Clean Touch, Diphonso, Khoroni Men’s Forum, Generation G and community members, all united for a common cause.
The discussions focused on the urgent need for education around GBV and encouraged individuals to report incidents, emphasising that change starts with collective action.
Ndu from Stredford Clinic’ s Mr Ndu gave an insightful talk on mental health, highlighting the importance of taking care of mental well-being and providing support to those with mental illness.
“The event was a resounding success, serving as a crucial reminder of the power of community solidarity in addressing these pressing issues,” said Nhlapo.
