Founded in 2012 by a network of Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Drieziek, the Kopanang Ma Afrika Drieziek Creches Association (KMA) is a vibrant community of 25 ECD centres supporting the holistic growth and development of over 1 000 children.

KMA is dedicated to providing high-quality educational programs in a safe, nurturing and well-equipped environment. Through collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders, organisations and forums, KMA strengthens its mission of uplifting young lives in the Drieziek community. The association offers foundational skills to prepare children for formal schooling and actively seeks government grants and fundraising opportunities to enhance its services.

On 27 September, Kopanang Ma Afrika Drieziek Creches Association (KMA), along with City of Johannesburg Social Development, Emergency Medical Services, Drieziek 4 Library and other community partners, hosted a vibrant Heritage Day program at Tswelopele Day Care.

The celebration brought South Africa’s cultural heritage to life, offering children, families and educators an enriching day of traditional attire, music, storytelling, arts and crafts and interactive workshops. KMA extends heartfelt thanks to all contributors, including Blue Ribbon, COJ Social Development, Mr. Sakhile, Dada Krishna and Ward 5 Local Councillor Mxolisi Nzondo.

“It was a beautiful day to honour our community’s culture and give children a deeper appreciation for their roots,” said Sanna Mokoena, Chairperson of KMA and founder of Morning Star ECD Centre.

“We’re grateful to all who contributed to this special day- our committee, practitioners, parents and the community. Let’s continue to stand together and ensure every child in Drieziek has access to quality early learning. We learn through play, laying a strong foundation for their future. Together, we continue building strong foundations for the children of Drieziek,” Mokoena concluded.
