In honour of Women’s Month, Orange Farm Library made a significant contribution to the Clean Touch Organisation by donating sanitary pads during a special event held on 23 August.
The initiative, spearheaded by dedicated staff members Queen Mhlongo and Thabiseng Fanta, centred on raising awareness about menstrual hygiene and health, ensuring that young girls feel supported during their menstrual cycles.
Mhlongo emphasised the importance of menstrual health in her address, stating, “Menstrual hygiene is vital for every girl. We want to ensure that our young girls feel supported and understand that their health matters.”
Lizzy Kodisang, representing the Clean Touch Organisation, expressed deep gratitude for the donation. “This event is a powerful reminder of the strength women have when they support each other. With no current funding for sanitary pads, this donation is incredibly meaningful to us,” she said.
The event reached 21 teenage girls, each receiving a pack of sanitary pads, thanks to the compassionate efforts of the library staff.
Lebogang Mampe, one of the recipients, shared her appreciation: “I’m very happy that the library cares about us. Having these pads will help us, especially because sometimes we can’t afford them.”
This initiative goes beyond merely donating sanitary pads; it represents a beacon of community support, raising awareness about menstrual health and assuring young girls that they are not alone in their struggles. The library’s commitment ensures that no girl has to miss school or feel ashamed due to her period.
