In the heart of Orange Farm, in the quiet streets of Ext 6A Stretford, Plot 9929, a beacon of hope and transformation shines brightly at the Chidiya Foundation, established in 2019 by the visionary Stephanie Sokane and co-founders Kamogelo Mthoke and Marie Tislovell, with a mission to provide quality education and care to underprivileged and disabled children in the community.
Chidiya Foundation, now caring for 30 children, has made remarkable strides, their dedicated efforts have enabled disabled children to receive professional diagnoses and appropriate treatments, ensuring they are placed in special schools suited to their needs.
This inclusive approach fosters an environment where children, regardless of their abilities, can interact, learn, and grow together without discrimination. Chidiya relies entirely on donations, distributing any surplus to the needy within the community.
Their commitment to creating meaningful change is evident in their comprehensive support system, which includes feeding and providing for the children and their families.However, Chidiya faces significant challenges. The demand for their services far exceeds their capacity, with a long waiting list of children in need of assistance.
Space limitations and funding constraints, especially without government support, hinder their ability to expand their reach.
“We believe in making a meaningful change in the community by educating the young ones as their brains are developing faster than in any other age of life. Our biggest challenge is space to accommodate more children and funding to sustain our operations. We rely solely on donations from private companies and individuals,” Sokane told Orange Farm News.
The foundation calls upon the community for help. Donations of money, food, clothing, and other essentials are vital for sustaining their operations. Partnering with organisations and individuals can help Chidiya meet a broader range of community needs. They also welcome fundraising initiatives and encourage supporters to sign up for a MySchool card, designating Chidiya as a beneficiary.
