Ext 2’s Thabo Splash, wears many hats as an artist and show hoster for Johanneburg 2 Vaal Cyphers, a YouTube channel dedicated to spotlighting local talent.
With a mission to shine a light on the vibrant artistic community, Splash has been championing emerging artists since 2001. In an interview with Orange Farm News, Splash shared insights into his show’s genesis and purpose: “I launched this platform to provide a stage for artists from all corners of South Africa. The show, available on YouTube, features interviews and performances by artists from Katlehong, Orange Farm, Palm Springs, Sebokeng, Meyerton, Ficksburg and even the Eastern Cape, showcasing their diverse talents.”
Currently on its seventeenth volume, Splash remains committed to amplifying local voices and talents. Recently, he had the privilege of interviewing one of Orange Farm’s own author Mandla Khumalo, discussing the acclaimed book “The Devil’s Playground.” These interviews are readily accessible on YouTube, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of creativity present in communities like Orange Farm.
With aspirations to expand the show’s reach, Splash envisions a future where Orange Farm and its surrounding areas are recognized as hubs of artistic brilliance. He encourages artists of all disciplines-be it dance, music, literature or entrepreneurship- to seize the opportunity and showcase their talents on his platform, fostering a culture of celebration and support for local creativity.
